As a Nutritional Coach and Personal Trainer, I always try to look out for restaurants that offer healthy options.  I do take pride in my diet and try to maintain healthy eating habits at all times.   And, one day while in Barrie, Ontario, I was headed to a Mexican Restaurant only to discover it wasn’t open.  Since I was very hungry, I knew the next choice would have to be close to the area I was in.  I came across an Indian restaurant called Tiffins Curry in a Hurry and here on Facebook.

Many of my friends know that I am quite particular about where I eat.  I try VERY hard to avoid chain restaurants. There are many reasons… I don’t eat bar food (nothing deep fried, pre-packaged, etc.), most restaurant food is highly processed (and over-priced), as an entrepreneur I would rather support the independents and most importantly, I like my dining experience to be unique, instead of being treated like every other customer that walks through the door.

So, I have to say that Tiffins, Curry in a Hurry in Barrie was a major score!!! The food is out of this world, made from scratch with the utmost passion and possesses amazing energy. The food is alive with abundant spices and flavours that explode in your mouth!! And, the owners are gracious and uber friendly! Not to mention, their daughter Kathleen is adorable.

Over time I have gotten to know hostess Goldie and the amazing Chef Kay.  Since I am such a ‘foodie’, upon my recommendations, they created some new recipes to be added to the menu.  It was an honour to be approached and have the opportunity to express my preferences and ideas with them. When it comes to food creations, my ideas are plentiful!  Throughout this process, I would sample the new recipes as they were created in order to provide ongoing feedback- not a bad job to have at all!!!

A few weeks ago, I finally got to order the new item “officially” from the menu and they nailed it, as I knew they would! Take pride in eating healthy and the added benefit of getting to know those who take their dedication and passion seriously will change your dining experience.  I encourage you to visit their location in Downtown Barrie and be sure to tell them that Stephanie sent you.

Try to make a healthier choice. Add a variety of spices and foods to your diet. Embrace something new and undiscovered.  Try something out of your comfort zone!!!  You may be pleasantly surprised to learn that there are exciting foods that have been missing from your diet. Variety is key when you are looking to make dietary changes.

In the end not only did I find a great independent restaurant, I also made new friends who share the passion of food.  This experience broadened my horizons and possibly opened the doors to adding a new service (restaurant menu consulting) and this all happened because the Mexican restaurant was closed!!!
