I’m Katie, founder of Sensible Wellness. With nearly 20 years of nursing experience—many of them spent working exhausting 12-hour shifts—I know firsthand the toll long days can take on the body. I struggled with leg pain, swelling, and the kind of fatigue that made every step feel like I was bleeding into my shoes.
Everything changed when my physician and occupational therapist recommended medical-grade compression stockings. The results were transformative: swelling became manageable, cramping stopped, and I finally experienced lasting relief and renewed energy. That personal journey opened my eyes to a greater need—not just among the working class, but especially for people facing cancer, lymphedema, and chronic wounds. Something as simple as proper compression can make a profound difference, yet it is still under-recognized and underused.
At the recommendation of a nurse in the compression therapy field, I began exploring the unique needs of breast cancer patients. This led me to train in Seattle, WA, where I became a Board-Certified Mastectomy Fitter (ABCOP). That experience gave me the privilege to better support women after mastectomy and lumpectomy—helping them regain both comfort and confidence.
Through Sensible Wellness, I now combine lifestyle medicine principles, lymphedema management, and mobile compression services to make care more accessible across the Lower Mainland. I continue to train with global lymphedema experts to ensure my clients benefit from the latest tools and knowledge in compression therapy, wound care, and post-cancer recovery.
